The electric version of the Volkswagen GTI hot hatchback is set to make its debut. In September 2023, at the IAA Mobility exhibition in Munich—exactly 48 years since the initial unveiling of the original Golf GTI in Frankfurt—the company hinted at this significant change by showcasing a prototype GTI model. This new design will likely mirror the concept presented quite closely when it goes into full-scale production.
Compared to the present-day GTI, the upcoming EV variant measures slightly shorter, reducing from 167 inches in length to about 161.6 inches overall, accompanied by a shortened wheelbase—from 104 inches to just under 102.4 inches. However, despite being shorter, it remains one inch broader than before. Stylistically speaking, the vehicle sports a bolder appearance compared to previous models powered solely by gasoline engines. Prominent features include enhanced frontal intakes designed for better brake ventilation and sleeker side panels. Due to not needing as much airflow for cooling purposes anymore, the radiator grille now takes up less space upfront. Additionally, the backdoor handle seems integrated within the window trim area, aiming to minimize wind resistance during travel.
A distinctive element associated with past GTIs was their gearshift knob resembling a golf ball—a nod preserved through interactive controls featuring such imagery linked directly to controlling the touchscreen interface equipped with a screen size measuring twelve point nine inches diagonally. Drivers also have options regarding how they wish data displayed across their digital dashboard: either adopting contemporary layouts or reverting to designs reminiscent of traditional gauge clusters found inside earlier versions of these iconic vehicles. Lastly, harking back further still to early iterations’ aesthetics, tartan fabric adorns certain interior sections, continuing yet another cherished tradition inherent among VW enthusiasts over generations.

The latest Volvo ES90 all-electric luxury model resembles a traditional sedan; however, features such as its hatchback-like rear door and increased ground clearance place it more in line with crossover vehicles. Enhanced active safety measures and driver aid functions utilize LiDAR sensors alongside improved computational speeds compared to previous models.

Volvo claims that their new fully electric EX30 is the smallest, quickest, and most efficient SUV they have produced yet. Compared to models like the Hyundai Kona Electric and Kia Niro EV at similar price points, it’s marginally smaller. Volvo states that the all-wheel-drive variant of the EX30 accelerates from 0 to 60 mph in merely 3.4 seconds, whereas the rear-wheel-drive model offers an approximate driving range of around 275 miles. Both front-wheel and all-wheel drives are offered options. Its styling follows a minimalistic approach, featuring one central touch screen that handles functions such as displaying speed information, managing climate controls, and operating entertainment systems. Inside, the vehicle incorporates numerous eco-friendly and organic materials. Notable safety enhancements encompass alerts when someone attempts to exit a door into the trajectory of an approaching bicycle rider. Initially manufactured in China, this particular car doesn’t meet the criteria necessary to receive federal tax incentives.
