Ironheart
is a new mini-series showcasing the character Riri Williams (Dominique Thorne), a highly skilled MIT student who made her debut in 2022’s
Black Panther: Wakanda Forever
.
A significant portion of the series focuses on Williams’s interactions with
Anthony Ramos
The mysterious Parker Robbins, also referred to as “The Hood,” following her discovery of schemes opposing the realm of magic with technology.
If Williams succeeds in defeating Robbins, she is subsequently approached by an unknown individual, played by
Sacha Baron Cohen
who introduces himself as the embodiment of evil within the MCU, known as Mephisto. Having initially mistaken him for another MCU antagonist,
Dormammu
Williams is set right by Mephisto. He subsequently influences the protagonist by proposing to bring back his late friend, Natalie, who has been converted into artificial intelligence.
The episode concludes with Williams welcoming a newly revived Natalie. Yet, she seems to have been tainted by Mephisto, as unsettling dark veins are now evident on her skin.
“The devil lies within the specifics,” stated Baron Cohen in an
Instagram
post following the release of the episode on Disney+
Mephisto’s first appearance in the Marvel Cinematic Universe is something fans have been waiting for many years, as the character has been hinted at in several television series like
WandaVision
,
Loki
and
Agatha All Along
.
It’s understandable that fans were thrilled to finally witness the character portrayed on film. “MEPHISTO HAS ARRIVED AT LAST! THIS IS REAL! Four years of anticipation have finally been worth it; I never believed this moment would arrive,” shared an enthusiastic follower.
“That finale of episode 6 left me shocked! Riri Williams striking a bargain with Mephisto to resurrect Natalie was incredible!” said someone else.
Some people commended Cohen’s performance, describing it as “chilling” and “remarkable.”
In another part, attentive audiences noticed a minor hidden detail depicting Mephisto in his classic “devil” look, with his face appearing as a fiery red demon in the mirror-like surface of a spoon.
“I was so preoccupied with going crazy that I totally didn’t notice Mephisto’s image in the spoon, oh my goodness,” said an amazed spectator.
Another fan remarked, ‘Mephisto seen in the mirror image of the spoon appears incredibly amazing even from this perspective.’
Mephisto, inspired by the figure of Mephistopheles from the Faust myth, made his initial appearance in Marvel Comics in 1963 and has consistently appeared as an antagonist for various superheroes such as the Silver Surfer, Ghost Rider, Doctor Strange, and Spider-Man.
It is still uncertain what will occur next with Mephisto. The character has not been officially cast for any upcoming Marvel ventures, though he holds a significant position in the Secret Wars comic book storyline, which is currently being developed into a movie set to come out soon.
