Update on Cast Changes for Moulin Rouge! The Musical
Patrick Clanton, a company member of Moulin Rouge! The Musical, has been announced as the temporary replacement for the role of Harold Zidler. Clanton previously served as a standby for both Zidler and Toulouse-Lautrec. He will take over the Zidler role starting on Saturday, May 2, and will continue through Sunday, May 17. This follows Megan Thee Stallion’s final performance in the role on Friday, May 1.
Eric Anderson, who played Zidler from 2022 to 2024, will return to the role on Tuesday, May 19. Clanton made his Broadway debut in Moulin Rouge! The Musical in 2022, initially appearing in the ensemble and as a standby for Zidler and Toulouse-Lautrec. He has also performed on tour in the Tony Award-winning revival of Oklahoma! directed by Daniel Fish, as well as in School of Rock and Sister Act. On television, he has appeared in Fox’s Best Medicine.

Thee Stallion did not provide details about the reason for her early departure. She began her eight-week engagement in the show on March 24 and faced challenges a week later. During the March 31 performance, she was taken to a local hospital after falling “very ill.” The following day, she released a statement saying she was “running on empty” and had been diagnosed with extreme exhaustion, dehydration, vasoconstriction, and low metabolic levels. She returned to the stage two nights later to a full house.
Since joining the cast, box office receipts for Moulin Rouge! The Musical have significantly increased. The weekly gross went from $872,702 for the pre-Megan week ending March 1 to over $1 million for each week after her arrival. The most recent available weekly gross, for the week ending April 19, was $1,663,269.
Producers are expected to announce a replacement actor for the remaining two weeks of Thee Stallion’s run in the coming days. This development comes shortly after the show’s run was extended for five weeks, now set to conclude on August 30.
