A mysterious spot on a woman’s leg caught the attention of TikTok users as she asked the community for their opinions on what it could be.
At the time the original video was posted, the woman, known as Amaya._.danielle, mentioned that she had had the small, circular spot for about a week and it wouldn’t go away. She described it as not itchy or painful, simply “there.” At the time, she didn’t think it could be ringworm.
The comment section, however, had a different take.
Highly Contagious
Some users were quick to label it as ringworm. One commenter wrote, “That is definitely ringworm.” Another suggested, “Ringworm. Go get you an antifungal cream.”
Others were more skeptical. One person shared, “Not ringworm. I have eczema and atopic skin and get these things sometimes, mostly in summer.”
According to the Mayo Clinic, ringworm is a rash caused by a fungal infection. It typically presents as an itchy, circular rash with clearer skin in the center. The name comes from the ring-like appearance around the outside of the rash, not from an actual worm inside the skin.
The fungus is highly contagious and can spread through various means, including human-to-human contact. In this case, the original poster (OP) noted that her fiancé and child didn’t show any symptoms, which initially made her doubt it was ringworm.

In a follow-up video, she revealed that after visiting the doctor, it was confirmed she had ringworm. She also shared that she had taken her dog to the vet a week earlier because she suspected he might have ringworm. The vet dismissed the concern, saying it was just allergies. After her diagnosis, she realized the vet was wrong, especially since her cat began showing similar symptoms.
The woman expressed frustration with the veterinarian, feeling that the infection could have been prevented if her pet had received the correct diagnosis. Now, the entire household is working to treat the infection.
Easily Overlooked
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), treatment for ringworm depends on the severity of symptoms and the area of the body affected. Antifungal medications come in various forms, including creams, ointments, lotions, powders, and pills. In some cases, over-the-counter options may be sufficient.
In this instance, the woman was prescribed a topical ointment. For many people, like the OP, ringworm can be easily overlooked. However, given its prevalence and contagious nature, it’s important for individuals to be aware of the risk factors and recognize the signs.
