The May issue of Where to Eat in Fort Worth, CultureMap’s monthly feature highlighting top restaurant recommendations, has a slightly health-conscious feel, with two of the five featured restaurants classified as healthy dining options. Additionally, it includes a steakhouse, a chef-driven spot capitalizing on a popular trend, and an impressive new home-cooked meal spot known for its outstanding baked treats.

Here are some places to dine in Fort Worth for May:

K&K Cafe

Exceptional home-style dining spot (and a Trey’s Chowdown)discovery) located in White Settlement at 7628 Corina Dr., behind the Silver Wheel Skating Rink, offers breakfast and lunch options, featuring traditional dishes such as chicken-fried steak, meatloaf, and pot roast. They also serve stuffed peppers, which are uncommon. The breakfast menu includes pancakes, chicken and waffles, breakfast tacos, and an exceptional smothered biscuit with sausage gravy, bacon, and eggs. Everything is made in-house, with added gourmet elements like arugula on a sandwich, beautifully golden skin-on fries, and avocado toast. They also have an impressive baking program featuring large cinnamon rolls, along with cakes, cheesecake, and pies.

Meraki

As usual, chef Tim Love is leading the latest hottest trend. This time it’s Mediterranean, with hislatest restaurant spotlighting dishesfrom Greece and other parts of the Mediterranean, nowopen at Courtside Kitchen, the pickleball facilityAt the former Mopac Event Center located at University Drive and I-30. The menu features lamb, seafood, and short ribs, but it is primarily focused on sides, appetizers, and dishes meant for sharing, including gigante beans with tomato, falafel with tahini, black garlic hummus, and eggplant with roasted peppers and Texas pecans.

A healthy chain based in Scottsdale, Arizona, has a preference for DFW, with 10 locations established in the region, including this onelatestin the Medical District located at 105 E. Additional options include seafood risotto, lamb chops, short rib stroganoff, sea bass, and a wedge salad. Interior designfeaturestributes to President Theodore Roosevelt, after whom the restaurant is named.

A newly opened restaurant in Willow Park is part of a chain that originated in Washington, D.C., which has effectively transformed what initially appeared to be a passing trend — toasts — into a long-lasting and attractive concept. Alongside toasts, the menu features sandwiches, salads, bowls, smoothies, and coffee beverages. This success is due to an imaginative menu and well-executed service. Toasts available include Avocado Smash, Smoked Salmon, Peanut Butter with bananas, and Fig & Prosciutto with Swiss and Fontina cheese, arugula, Turkish figs, red onion, and pistachio. (Plain toast is also available in options like multigrain, sourdough, and walnut-raisin.)
