Director hints at original cast return in ‘Princess Diaries 3’

Following her return as Andy Sachs in “The Devil Wears Prada 2,” Anne Hathaway is set to introduce another of her famous roles, Mia Thermopolis, to the silver screen.

Adele Lim, Who is scheduled to direct “Princess Diaries 3″?”, told at the Gold Gala red carpet on Saturday, it was stated that the highly anticipated installment is “going well.”

We simply want to get the story right because it’s a franchise that is deeply cherished by so many people,” said Lim, who mentioned that some fans from the 2001 original film are now mothers, including herself. She shared that becoming a mother influenced her approach to directing as she changed the story from focusing on a young girl to a more grown-up woman. “There are numerous films that serve as wish fulfillment for princesses, but we don’t have many that do the same for queens. That’s what we’re aiming to achieve here, showcasing a woman at her full strength.

Although Lim mentions that the shooting and production timeline is still being finalized, fans can look forward to seeing Hathaway’s Mia Thermopolis reappear, this time as the Queen of Genovia.

If you enjoyed the first two films, I believe you’ll have a lot of enjoyment from the many returning elements,” said Lim regarding actors reprising their roles, noting that the movie will be set in the fictional kingdom of Genovia. “We’ll have the opportunity to film in Europe and truly present Genovia to the audience in all its grandeur.

It won’t be the only beloved series that Lim is working on. The writer of “Crazy Rich Asians” is serving as an executive producer for afollow-up series to the 2018 film, currently being developed at HBO.

“We’re really thrilled because in a television series, we get to delve into all these unique characters that the talented writer Kevin Kwan created in his book series,” said Lim.

Kwan’s book series chronicled the love story between Rachel Chu (Constance Wu) and Nick Young (Henry Golding) as Rachel stepped into Nick’s high-society world of wealthy individuals in Singapore. The first novel was brought to the silver screen by Lim and her group, and it became a huge success, generating more than $239 million globally.

Regarding the source material for the other two novels: “Similar to the movie, Kevin Kwan’s books served as a guiding light for us, but he has also allowed us to delve into our own narratives,” Lim mentioned about the show’s storyline. Although it hasn’t been confirmed if Wu and Golding will return, Lim stated, “It’s all being resolved, but yes, that is the plan.”

The Golden Gala, organized by the non-profit Gold House, honors excellence within the Asian diaspora across multiple fields, including technology and entertainment.
