More frequent in Hollywood are legacy sequels, yetthe upcoming Spaceballs 2appears to be a project worth getting enthusiastic about. Mel Brooks is once again serving as a producer, and a significant portion of theoriginal Spaceballs cast, including the recently retired Rick Moranis, are returning to their roles. The cast also features some new actors, such as Lewis Pullman, and they expressed how thrilling it was to see Moranis back in action (which made me feel left out).
Pullman has recently promoted his newest movie,Remarkably Bright Creaturesand, throughout the conversation, he also addressed a query regardingSpaceballs: The New One. While speaking to Collider, Pullman shared insights into what it has been like joining the highly anticipated sequel alongside Moranis, who is returning as the comically antagonistic Dark Helmet. Pullman’s account of the experience seems incredible and makes me wish I could have been on set with them. He mentioned:
I believe it was simply hearing him perform the Dark Helmet voice, and how effortlessly he returned to it. It was an astonishing moment because that voice is already deeply embedded in my mind without any cost. Just hearing him rediscover it — he didn’t even need to search for it; it was immediately there — was truly a dream realized.
This is amazing and implies that the character has not departed from Rick Moranis even after all these years.Moranis left the acting profession 30 years ago.to be a single father and chose not to come back. Over the years, he refused offers to reappear in iconic roles, even rejecting the newGhostbustersmovies, because he didn’t think it made sense for him.
I suppose there was something about this science fiction sequel that reignited his passion for acting, and he even assisted in promoting the film at CinemaCon earlier this year. As expected,Mel Brooks will make the impossible become possible.
I’m excited to see Lewis Pullman in the latest Spaceballs moviealso. Notably, his father, Bill Pullman, portrayed Lone Starr in the original film of the franchise and will be taking on the role again in the upcoming sequel.

Lewis has performed with his father previously inThe Tale of Lefty Brownand in Battle of the Sexesbut, this time, theThe Pullmans will perform as father and son.In the previously mentioned sequel, which I find genuinely charming. I can’t wait to see how they interact with one another. Both are highly skilled, and this will provide them with an opportunity to showcase their comedic abilities.
Between Rick Moranis returning to the role of Dark Helmet and the genuine father-son relationship between the Pullmans, Spaceballs 2 It appears to be more than just a trip down memory lane. It feels as though the creative team is assembling something that has been worth waiting 40 years for. As a comedy enthusiast and a fan of Mel Brooks, I wish I could have been on set witnessing everything unfold. Therefore, when Moranis, Pullman, and others begin promoting the film, I will definitely be eager to hear behind-the-scenes stories.
You will be able to see both Lewis Pullman and Rick Moranis inSpaceballs: The New One when it becomes available in cinemas on April 23, 2027. In the meantime, fans can watch the original 1987 movie right now with aPrime Video subscription.
