DoorDashhas made a crucial move in improving access to food by incorporating theSupplementary Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP)onto its platform. This program enables recipients to buy groceries online through their Electronic Benefits Transfer (EBT) cards. By doing so, DoorDash is broadening its range of services while also tackling a significant issue regarding digital access to necessary food supplies, especially for individuals who depend mainly on SNAP benefits.
The collaboration with KrogerOne of the biggest supermarket chains in the United States, Kroger, highlights DoorDash’s dedication to enhancing access to food. Through allowing SNAP payments at around 2,700 Kroger locations, DoorDash is simplifying online grocery shopping for millions of recipients. This partnership marks a major step forward in how SNAP benefits are used, shifting from conventional in-store transactions to a more user-friendly digital system.
In addition to Kroger, DoorDash’s partnership includes affiliated stores like Mariano’s, Fred Meyer, Ralphs, and Harris Teeter. This growth allows SNAP participants to buy a diverse selection of necessary items, such as meat, fruits, vegetables, dairy, and frozen goods, directly via the DoorDash app. This increases the availability of products and provides recipients with multiple choices to fulfill their dietary requirements.
Mike Goldblatt, the Vice President of Business Partnerships at DoorDash, highlighted the significance of this effort, stating,
Affordable food availability is essential.
This partnership with Kroger marks a significant advancement in broadening access to SNAP across the country. Through incorporating SNAP benefits into its system, DoorDash is strengthening its position within the food delivery industry and aiding the digital evolution of social assistance programs.
To promote the use of EBT payments, DoorDash is providing a special offer for new customers. Individuals who use EBT for their initial purchase at participating Kroger locations will get free delivery, a deal that lasts until June 15. This initiative is designed to help families who rely on these benefits, making online grocery shopping easier and more cost-effective.
The availability of SNAP benefits on DoorDash occurs during a period when these programs are already widely used within the app. By the end of 2025, more than 57,000 stores were accepting SNAP and EBT payments via DoorDash, with around 4.5 million users connecting their benefit cards to the service. This information highlights the increasing dependence on digital tools for food access among SNAP participants.
A study by DoorDash pointed out a significant problem: individuals using SNAP are twice as likely to reside in regions with limited availability of fresh food, referred to as “food deserts.” Through enabling online grocery purchases, DoorDash is working to close this gap, offering an essential service to people in under-served areas and improving their access to healthy and fresh food.
The significance of SNAP in maintaining food security is clear, as the U.S. Department of Agriculture stated that more than 42.1 million people used SNAP on a monthly basis during fiscal year 2025. DoorDash’s inclusion of SNAP benefits marks a major advancement in assisting these individuals, providing a practical and effective method to obtain necessary groceries and enhance their general well-being.
