Third Suspect Charged in Westminster Apts. Shooting

Arrests in Connection to Westminster Apartments Shooting

Amarillo Police have arrested a third suspect in connection with the May 2 shooting at the Westminster Apartments, which resulted in two deaths and ten injuries. The latest arrest involves 17-year-old Excellent Vyizigiro, who was booked into Potter County jail on May 28 for Felony Murder.

This follows the arrests of Jame Htoo, 17, and Eh Gay Htoo Win, 20, both of whom were charged with murder in relation to the incident. Htoo was recently arrested for evading arrest, while Win was taken into custody on May 2, just hours after the shooting, for unlawful carrying of a weapon by a gang member, tampering with evidence, and failure to identify.

Officials have indicated that all three suspects will face additional charges of Aggravated Assault with a deadly weapon/mass shooting, with each of the ten injured victims resulting in a separate charge.

Details of the Mass Shooting

The mass shooting occurred around 2 a.m. on May 2 at the Westminster Apartments. Two individuals, 17-year-old Ezekiel Almazan and 16-year-old Deven Antonucci, were killed during the incident. According to investigators, several individuals who had been asked to leave an earlier gathering followed attendees to the Coulter address, attempted to enter an apartment, and opened fire using rifle-style weapons.

Court documents filed on May 21 revealed that a woman told police she and her boyfriend were hosting a party at their home in the 400 block of S. Mississippi Street before the apartment shooting. She described a group of men coming to the party, one of whom, later identified as Win, had a gun “half the size of an AR” tucked in the front of his pants.

The men were refused entry, and the woman’s boyfriend believed this angered them, prompting him to end the party at their house. The couple then went to a party at the Westminster Apartments, where they stayed for about 20 minutes before the mass shooting took place.

Investigation and Evidence

After the shooting, police stopped a car for running a stop sign. Win was a passenger in the front seat. During the stop, police found two AR-style rifles in the trunk that matched shell casings found at the scene of the apartment shooting.

During the investigation, it was discovered that the suspects may have been associated with the Asian Pride Gang. During a lineup after Win’s arrest, witnesses were able to identify him as the male with the gray/silver rifle in his pants at the initial party.

Htoo was identified through surveillance video of the suspect vehicle. He was seen in the video wearing a red hoodie with distinctive white lettering, loose-fitting black pants, and black-and-white Nike Panda Dunks sneakers. Investigators later recovered that same hoodie during a search of Htoo’s Potter County home and confirmed it belonged to him.

Vyizigiro is the third suspect police were seeking, and his arrest marks another significant step in the ongoing investigation into the tragic event.
