However, there’s a growing emphasis on sustainability, with shiny satin being replaced by coarse-woven cotton and natural linen.
Uniform pastel colors are a thing of the past; instead, the style can be more refined and complete. For those who find this too dull, they can cautiously dip into the burgundy color palette alongside off-white. According to Goldberg, this color is also slowly making its way back into wedding decor. In general, contrasts and fresh, unexpected splashes of color are making a comeback. This fits with another trend: “Unusual lounge furniture is also in demand, as well as lavish (floral) decor.” They skillfully break up the classic minimalism and give the decoration a luxurious, almost urban touch. “Everything should look elegant and not rustic,” warns the experienced wedding planner.
The era of the pure boho look is definitely coming to an end. Instead, organic elements and original, handmade ceramics are coming to the forefront. Minimalist uniform looks are giving way to more visible personality.
What’s New and What’s Staying?
Those planning a wedding often start one or more years in advance—a time span subject to constant fluctuations. Thus, trends may not appear specific to a year but have a longer-lasting presence. “It’s basically like fashion and countercyclical. Wedding trends here often come from the U.S. and are either adopted 1:1 or adapted,” explains Goldberg.
According to wedding planning websites, various concepts from past years continue to endure. Couples still prefer free ceremonies, and sustainability remains a significant theme. Rigid concepts regarding dress codes, schedules, and catering are becoming more relaxed, and candid snapshots are gaining more focus. The almost sterile aesthetics of previous years are breaking up and being replaced by earthy and noble color palettes—always based on the trend color “Cloud Dancer.” Everything should flow, fall softly, and appear artfully draped.
Small Budget? No Problem
Even with financial constraints, the new wedding trends of 2026 can be skillfully implemented in decor. What always looks grand and lavish on social media can also be effective on a smaller scale.
The expert advises practicality: “Those who really want to save should forgo rental furniture and elaborate decor and use what the location offers. Fabric drapings are not the issue price-wise, but the manpower for installation quickly adds up.” Nevertheless, she emphasizes the importance of hiring a professional, experienced decor team familiar with fabrics and safety precautions. Because: “Cheap fabrics = fire hazard.” Another tip from the expert: Don’t overdo it with backdrops; instead, use eye-catchers strategically, “e.g., only for the free ceremony or just behind the bridal table instead of throughout the entire location.”
Follow Trends or Be Creative?
The general rule is: What’s in is what you like, as Goldberg knows: “We advise our couples to stay true to themselves and choose the style that truly suits them. After all, a wedding should be as authentic as possible.” And so it can happen that trends from previous years suddenly find new expression or concepts extend over several years.
