It’s time to showcase your garden through the Homestyle Garden Photo Contest. From May 29 at noon until Aug. 17 at noon, you can submit photos of your garden. Only shots taken this year are eligible. Weekly winners will be announced, and each will receive a home or garden book. These weekly winners will then compete for the grand prize — a $200 VISA gift card — through online voting by Homestyle readers. The final winner will be announced on Sept. 11. Check Welcome Mat on June 5 for the first weekly winner. For inspiration, look at last year’s grand-prize-winning photo, “Garden with Pond and Waterfall” by Patricia Thorner. Design Within Reach Opens in Birmingham
The new Design Within Reach (DWR) store has officially opened in Birmingham. This 7,757-square-foot location is situated in the heart of downtown Birmingham, inside the historic Wabeek Building, designed in 1928 by Albert Kahn, a renowned Detroit architect. It is DWR’s second location in Michigan, following the original store in Grand Rapids. The store highlights Michigan’s modern design heritage, paying homage to the nearby Cranbrook Academy of Art. Many iconic pieces from Cranbrook alumni, such as the Eames Lounge and Ottoman, Saarinen Table and Tulip Chairs, and Bertoia Chairs, are available here. The interior is organized as a curated design tour, featuring landmark pieces alongside contemporary furnishings. Complimentary design services are also offered. The store is located at 214 W. Maple.
